Emmy, Golden Globe Winning TV Writer Makes it Big in Nuldoid
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 2, 2009 -- To say that TV writer/producer Russ Woody is a big wheel in Hollywood may not be an overstatement. If he isn't one, he's for sure writing about one. With his first novel, The Wheel of Nuldoid, Woody combines his fertile imagination and experience of years of writing for television to create a fantasy world reminiscent of The Hobbit.
Nuldoid, however, is inhabited by Nuldoids, surprisingly enough...diminutive creatures whose personalities have little in common with Tolkien's more affable, well mannered, Hobbits. Plainly spoken--they're known to be cranky and disagreeable.
Tied into Northern California history, specifically the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, the story tells of two Nuldoids, who, thanks to a fissure in the earth, retrieve a crystal in Golden Gate Park with the intention of delivering it to a location in Nuldoid, hundreds of miles below the earth's surface. Oh, by the way, they mug and kidnap a Crustoid (human surface dweller) to assist them in their quest…their quest to save the world from destruction.
"The whole adventure with Nuldoid has been pretty wild for me, both writing it and sharing it with young adults, especially my two sons, Henry and Joe. My dilemma was that I couldn't really write it JUST for kids, I had to write it with a subtext that would appeal to adults as well... since that's what I am, and since I had to read and reread the thing maybe a few hundred kazillion times."
Woody got his start in "Show Biz" as an intern writing a comedy segment for a daily TV magazine program in Sacramento. The Bella Vista High School grad followed his dream to Tinsel Town, where he wrote for St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues and wrote and produced notable shows such as Murphy Brown, Mad About You, Cybill, Becker and The Drew Carey Show, garnering an Emmy and Golden Globe along the way.
